Message to Heaven

I have a group of paintings that I call Message to Heaven. The first painting of the group is Celestial Chart. When I painted it, I was very excited about it. I was wishing so hard that I could show it to my Mother and hear what she would say; but she had passed away before I had painted it. I would have given the painting to her. It is red and she loved red.

Ever since I was young my Mother supported my interest in painting. Then, I lived at home part of my time during art school and so, my Mother was very aware of my learning. I experienced an understated support for my work from my Mother and her friends, who were my first collectors, and I am appreciative and proud of it.

Mandarin Drive is currently on my studio wall. It is part of the group Message to Heaven. It is about home. My Mother loved strong colors and certain bold patterns in the fabrics of her home but the energy there was peaceful and open. In her home she had an amazing rug of Persian design, unusual in that it was bright pink, green, yellow, aubergine and more. A lovely little girl has the magical rug now. We can only imagine for now how it might impact her.

Thank you – she really liked you too. She always called you Mary Martha by the way!
