Predictions and Meaning

I have a library of art books in my studio. Most of the books have been with me for many years. Now, I do not often get a chance to visit the actual work of the artists in my books, although I did go often to museums when I lived in New York. The work of the artists in these books and museums is thought to be important, enduring, and valuable.

I was taken to MOMA when young and later I would go by myself to see familiar paintings in their familiar places in this museum. MOMA underwent a renovation. When I returned after a long absence some of Picasso’s paintings had been moved and hung in a different way. The magic that I had always seen was gone! Maybe they were not hung well, but the loss of the magic suggested a change in me , a change in my aesthetic vision, and perhaps, a change related to the progress of painting.

I used to make collages and unique books.I devised ways to use a variety of materials such as lace papers, feathers, gold leaf and marbled paper.I was amused and intrigued with the writings in old books and old photos because some of the ideas from the past were no longer relevant while other writings conveyed important messages. I turned old books into new creations. With the passage of time some of my pieces seem almost silly and others are not. Maybe they will all be silly in the future… Maybe they will be special.

I am very proud of the paintings that I make now, and I am creating a strong body of work ( in my opinion). Not everyone understands my paintings but then there are the lovely people who look with their heart or soul and find pleasure in my work. I cannot predict the significance of my work in the future.
